Volunteer

Our volunteers help us to provide food and practical support to people left without enough money to live on.

Volunteers make a difference in the local community across a range of roles, including boosting donations, packing food parcels, providing a warm welcome, tackling loneliness, signposting to additional services, connecting with partners, raising awareness and leading projects.

Volunteer roles

We describe below some of the work done to get donations collected, sorted and sent out to our clients - so, if you are interested in volunteering at a food bank centre or in the warehouse we'd love to hear from you!

Get in touch

Volunteer at a foodbank centre

Meet clients and help give out food parcels. Have an informal chat with clients over a cup of tea to discuss their situation and signpost to further support.

Volunteer at our warehouse

The warehouse is the backbone of our organisation. Vacancies for regular volunteering slots at the warehouse do come up on a regular basis so if you are interested please contact us.

Volunteer as a driver

Our van drivers help us move donated goods from various collection points to our warehouse and take sorted food aid boxes from the warehouse to our various foodbank centres for distribution to our clients.

Volunteer fitness

We will do our best to accommodate anyone who wises to volunteer, but the nature of the tasks involved means that some lifting and carrying will be needed. We have guidance on the correct way to undertake these tasks, and we expect two people to lift heavy items.

Duke of Edinburgh volunteering

We often receive requests for volunteering opportunities from people undertaking the Duke of Edinburgh programme. Unfortunately, suitable roles in regular times are limited but during the current crisis, they are even more constrained. Accordingly, at this time we regret we cannot offer any roles to those doing Duke of Edinburgh.
